Multi-media mechanical filter mainly uses the appropriate grade of quartz sand and anthracite media, to remove the sediment, suspended solids, colloid and other impurities in raw water, and reduce the SDI (pollution index) value, and purify raw water initially.
After a period of working time, a large number of suspended solids and colloids and other impurities would adhere on the media surface, the bonding impurities may even form mud ball, the pressure difference of inlet and outlet increases, so backwash is necessary to clean the impurities on the filter layer, then a new cycle starts.
Backwash cycle is controlled by the pressure setting parameters, when the inlet and outlet pressure difference reaches to 0.5 ~ 0.7kg / cm2, stop running and start backwash. The back-washing strength should cause the filter layer to expand by 15-25%.
